This genuine plaster Grand Tour intaglio dates circa 1840 and is from a collection by Giovanni Liberotti, a nineteenth-century Roman gem engraver who specialized in making these Grand Tour souvenirs. This intaglio shows a Citerista from a wall painting in Herculaneum and has a small edge chip. The intaglio has been mounted on Italian marbled paper in a unique, resin- like frame in the shape of a temple facade. Please note the small chip on the intaglio. Otherwise in excellent antique condition.
