Procured from the estate of collectors of fine antiques, we have available here an incredible extra large pair of white flat-back Staffordshire Mantel Dogs with curled tails, wearing locket collars and chains. Both dogs have worn gold lacquer/gilt details; including worn gilt spots across the front bodies. These dogs are unmarked and likely date to the second half of the 19th century to the 20th century. They are in very good antique condition with one gilt-spotted dog with a Y-shaped hairline to the back and both with some scattered wear to enamel and gilt decorations and/or crazing. One of the dogs also appears to have a rattle likely from dislodged ceramic inside of the cast. There are small blue dots in the glaze as well. Overall, this is a very fine pair of authentic Staffordshire dogs and a great addition to any collection.
These dogs are approximately 12.625 inches tall, 10 inches long, and almost 4 inches wide. Together the set weighs around 8.7 lbs.
