These works by renowned historian and British classical liberal Thomas Babington Macaulay cover the 17-year period from 1685 to 1702, encompassing the reign of James II, the Glorious Revolution, the co-regency of William III and Mary II, and up to William III’s death. They are regarded as a set of volumes well known for their innovative (for the time) mix of prose and facts. The original works were published in 1848 and this lovely set comes from the Philadelphia publishers Porter & Coates.
These volumes are a faded red colors with decorative embellishments to the front and back covers. My favorite detail is the greek key on the sides! The spines in all books remain in tact, with slight separation in Volume V. Each has varying degrees of spotting and markings on the covers and pages, consistent with the age and previous use of these books. They do have a slight “old book” smell to them. Regardless, these volumes remain in very good condition and are very suitable for both display and for reading.
Please inquire for further photos should you need them.
